I'm going to spend a decent portion of tonight and this weekend working on common airfield buildings that we can use to brighten up the lifeless strips of grass and asphalt we call home.
The goal is to try and find at least 50 buildings that will suit airfield use, and come up with 2 sets of textures for each.
That will give us 100 different buildings to use.
What I need are pictures of European airfield buildings, preferably side or front on shots to help me create the textures.
Anyone who wants to do any modelling as well is more than welcome to jump in. Buildings are a great place to start!

Here's a link i posted over at the FG forum. It shows pretty much every type of hangar the RAF ever used. Some more common than others... www.airfieldinformationexchange.org/community/showthread.php?4119-Hangar-TypesNote: the Type C and T-2 hangars are already available in FG as well as some of the other RAF buildings such as the H-block accomodation buildings and officer's mess etc. Others are there but need sprucing up, eg. as mentioned previously, the type E is missing textures. You can see what is and isn't done and how good/bad they are at scenemodels.flightgear.org/modelbrowser.php?shared=6As most RAF stations, especially of WWII era were built to a pretty standard template, once the main buildings are available, we should be able to bang out quite a good number of airfields at a good pace. I dare say some will have "quirks" that need the odd custom building, though.

I'd be up for starting to learn airfield modelling, perhaps I can start on my home base (which I'd like to look nice, of course) which is loval to me, so I can go down there, have a nose about, get arrested...

Well if you get blender downloaded I'd strongly recommend you download the first tutorial video and sit through it for 10 mins. You'll be able to make a simple hangar straight off, texturing it is the bitch!
I may do a tutorial next week, basic building type thing.
Although a lot of people starting out in modelling have found google sketchup to be just as good. I can't get to grips with it myself

Ah, I've got a fair bit of SketchUp experience myself, so I might try that first... but I do need to know more about scenery creation in general...

I'm currently working on the "footprint" of Cosford in Taxidraw and once that's done I've gotta see if I can get to grips with TerraGear *gulp* so i can get the actual ground side of things sorted before building stuff.
